What is Gallup Pride, Inc.?

Gallup Pride is a volunteer organization serving the Gallup and surrounding area. We work in promoting Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Two-Spirit, and Allied Pride. We organize GLBTQIA Pride events throughout the year in preparation of our annual Gallup Pridefest Celebration. We welcome the participation of our community and look forward to meeting you. We are honored to be citizens of Gallup, New Mexico.

The mission of Gallup Pride is to educate our community, honor our heritage, embrace our diverse cultures, and promote harmony between the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and community-at-large.

The Vision of Gallup Pride is to:

  • Promote unity with the supportive organizations within Gallup and surrounding rural communities, where all such organizations can participate equally in an encouraging environment to promote awareness and honor of our local gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities.

  • Strive towards the elimination of intolerance experienced by gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender communities through advocacy, education, and visibility.

  • Instill confidence, self respect, love, compassion, leadership, and creativity within our gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities.

  • Maintain the sustainability through courage, dedication, volunteerism, passion and commitment towards Gallup and surrounding rural communities.

History of the Gallup Pridefest

The Inaugural Gallup Pridefest was held on June 6, 2009. The day events included a community fair with representatives from Navajo AIDS Network, Inc., Equality New Mexico, Parents Friends of Lesbians and Gay – PFLAG, LGBTQI Stop Tobacco On My People, New Mexico Department of Health, UNM Gallup Gay Straight Alliance, American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, and The New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  The evening celebration was hosted in downtown Gallup at the Historic El Morro Theatre. It was Drag Diva show, which included the Crowning of Miss Inaugural Gallup Pride, Miss Myrtis. Both events attracted over 300 attendees and is remarkable as most attendees were straight allies; our families, our friends, and community attended in celebration of diversity.
